The proposed buying of SUN by IBM is sending worry signals right across the US. What is the worry? It is very simple. SUN and IBM have many overlaps in terms of businesses. That is why they are such good entities to merge. However, since the businesses overlap, layoffs are inevitable. As many as 10,000+ jobs are feared would get cut if they merge together.
“This deal is definitely going to lead to a lot of combined layoffs,” predicts an analyst. “And it wouldn’t be a surprise if most of that bloodletting happened on the Sun side.”
