In the 1980s, there came a book which created a buzz around the world. It was titled “In search of excellence”. Written by a team of Mckinsey professionals, it talked about companies which have excelled in their business practices. It went on to describe those companies and explain how others can also attain greatness just like these companies.
The sad part is today, none of those companies which were described in that book anywhere near excellence.
Why does this happen? Simply because, the companies are like human beings. They are in fact made of human beings. They have leaders who make mistakes. They have teams which make mistakes. And, what was excellent soon becomes mediocre.
