US President Barack Obama has strongly condemned the “unjust actions” of Iran in clamping down on election protests. Iran has accused United Nations chief Ban Ki-moon of “meddling” after he called on Iran to respect the “will of its people”. Iranian foreign minister Hassan Ghashghavi criticised him for listening to “domineering” Western powers.
Obama has reacted to this. Obama said it was “patently false” to suggest the West was fomenting unrest in Iran. He said: “The United States and the international community have been appalled and outraged by the threats, beatings, and imprisonments of the last few days. “I strongly condemn these unjust actions, and I join with the American people in mourning each and every innocent life that is lost.”
