The general elections of Tunisia was won by the Islamist Party An-Nahda which was led by Rachid Ghannouchi. As given by the early results the Islamist party had won about 40 % of the vote and the remaining vote was shared. The other parties of Tunisia included the democratic Forum for Lab-our,Progressive Democratic Parties and Ettakatol. There will be a coalition which may happen between An-Nahda in the constituent assembly taking up the government having 217 members.
There was about 7.5 million voters who had voted for the first time had bought out their true commitments by casting their votes. In many of the areas most of the voters turned out to cast their vote and the reported percentage was 90% according to the reports. From about 110 parties there was not less than 11,000 candidates and most of the party was reserved for women candidates. The first people in the west Asia and North Africa to claim their rights were the people of Tunisia and have thus participated in free elections.
The society now thus stands out for themselves after having a long hard-work and have reclaimed their state. At present there has been a lot of changes providing Women to have a substantial role and having their rights. There is a raise in the female literacy to about 65% and has risen while polygamy has been put an end marriageable age is 18. In-spite of all these the rural populations in Tunisia remains conservative and has shown support for the social change.
