A plane carrying California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger has made an emergency landing in Los Angeles because of smoke in the cockpit. However, the former film star was calmness personified. He even tweeted about it later on.

No-one was hurt after a “quick, steep, but safe” landing, his office said. The former film star was so calm about the incident that he immediately logged on to social networking website Twitter to share his experience. “A little adventure just now when my plane made an emergency landing. All’s ok, though,” his message said.

The pilot diverted the jet to the Van Nuys airport 10 minutes before it was due to land at Santa Monica, spokesman Aaron McLear said in a statement.

A nursery worker has been charged with four counts of sexual assault and three counts relating to the distribution of indecent images of children. Vanessa George, 39, of Plymouth, Devon, was arrested at her home in the Efford area of the city on Monday night. Police said that some images discovered by officers were taken inside the Little Ted’s nursery where she worked. Ms George is in police custody and due to appear before Plymouth Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, officers said.

As well as the sexual assault charges, Ms George faces one count each of making, possessing and distributing indecent images of children. Little Ted’s nursery, in Laira, remains closed.

A museum in Paris has reported the theft of a sketchbook of some 32 drawings by Pablo Picasso worth about 8m euros ($11m; £6.8m). The theft was discovered on Tuesday afternoon but the exact time and circumstances have yet to be determined. Initial investigations showed the sketchbook was held in an unlocked display case on the first floor. Police sources told the Agence France-Presse news agency that the theft would probably have been committed between Monday evening and noon on Tuesday. There were no signs of a break-in an no alarms were set off. The museum was closed at the time although there was a private viewing on Tuesday. The museum’s management have so far refused to comment on the theft.

Susan Boyle, who was the Britain’s Got Talent runner-up, has been taken to The Priory Clinic in London with exhaustion, on the advice of a doctor. She was supposedly drained after coming runner up to the dance group diversity on the ITV1 show. Her brother, Gerry, told that Susan was “fine” but feeling homesick and “showing signs of anxiety”. Prime Minister Gordon Brown wished the star well. “I hope Susan Boyle is okay because she is a really, really nice person,” he told GMTV. Though Brown did not vote for her in the final, hde is said to be concerned about her welfare.

A powerful earthquake has struck off the coast of Honduras, killing five people and causing widespread damage. The earthquake hit 64km (39 miles) north-east of Roatan, one of Honduras’s Bahia islands in the Caribbean Sea, in the early hours of Thursday. A number of schools and at least one church were damaged. The main port, Puerto Cortes, has been closed. Tremors were felt in dozens of cities across the region and as far north as Cancun in Mexico.

The 7.1 magnitude quake struck at 0324 local time (0824 GMT) at a relatively shallow depth of 10km (six miles), according to the US Geological Survey (USGS).

I visualise life to be similar to a game of chess. In chess, more often than not, it is impossible to undo a grave mistake. You cannot undo the damage of losing a piece or a blunder. Similarly, it is very difficult to undo big mistakes done in life. In chess, small mistakes start cumulating and it all comes back to haunt the player. He gets tied up for room and is forced to make more mistakes. Similarly, in life also, small mistakes cumulate and come back to haunt the person.
