The US stock market and also all other global markets have crashed by anything between 4% to 10% in the last three trading sessions, thanks to the new proposal by Obama to cut down the banking risks in US.
The new restrictions are expected to cut down the risk taking ability of deposit taking banks in US which in turn can cut down the overall venture capital and hedging trades.
The flow of cheap money from US into other markets are also expected to come down in the coming months, as there are signs of early interest rate hikes by US. Also the loss of the long held democratic seat by Obama to the rival Republicans at the beginning of this week only added to the downturn.

The US secretary of state has said that a militant attack on Pakistan’s army HQ is evidence of an increasing threat against the authority of the state.

Speaking in London, Mrs Clinton said that despite the attack, the US had confidence in Pakistan’s control over its nuclear weapons.

The attack, which began on Saturday and turned into a siege, ended hours ago after hostages were released.

Correspondents say the attack is highly embarrassing for Pakistan’s leaders.

“Yesterday was another reminder that extremists … are increasingly threatening the authority of the state,” Mrs Clinton said.

US President Barack Obama has strongly condemned the “unjust actions” of Iran in clamping down on election protests. Iran has accused United Nations chief Ban Ki-moon of “meddling” after he called on Iran to respect the “will of its people”. Iranian foreign minister Hassan Ghashghavi criticised him for listening to “domineering” Western powers.

Obama has reacted to this. Obama said it was “patently false” to suggest the West was fomenting unrest in Iran. He said: “The United States and the international community have been appalled and outraged by the threats, beatings, and imprisonments of the last few days. “I strongly condemn these unjust actions, and I join with the American people in mourning each and every innocent life that is lost.”

While the US President Barack Obama says he is “deeply troubled” by violence in Iran following last week’s disputed presidential elections, he studiously avoided making any comments on the vote fraud issue.

Obama called on Iran’s leaders to respect free speech and the democratic process, and said he would continue pursuing tough dialogue with Iran. His comments came after hundreds of thousands defied a government ban and attended an opposition rally in Tehran.

“I think that the democratic process, free speech, the ability for folks to peacefully dissent, all those are universal values and need to be respected.”

Though it is seen as a terrorist outfit by the US, a senior EU official has for the first time held talks with a politician from the Lebanese Hezbollah movement. European Union foreign policy chief Javier Solana met Hezbollah official Hussein Hajj Hassan at the Lebanese parliament building in Beirut. Mr Hajj Hassan is one of Hezbollah’s 11 members of parliament, following recent elections which were won by a rival Western-backed alliance.

The EU has previously rejected public contacts with Hezbollah, which also controls Lebanon’s most powerful military force.
